Homeopathic Books

Recommended Books

We are often asked to suggest books for learning homeopathy. Here are some guidelines. Links for online ordering are provided for your convenience. Many of them also include reader reviews and other details. A very simple introductory text to homeopathy is Dr. Timothy Dooley’s book, Homeopathy: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine, which you will see listed below. Another very interesting introduction, that covers the field well, is Amy Lansky’s Impossible Cure:The Promise of Homeopathy. If you wish to move beyond this level, or already know something of basic homeopathy, then we suggest George Vithoulkas’ excellent book, The Science of Homeopathy. See more about these recommendations in the listing below.

Impossible Cure: The Promise of Homeopathy
Author Amy Lansky tells the incredible story of how homeopathy was used to cure her son of autism. Although Lansky is not a medical professional, she has a Ph.D. from Stanford and worked for NASA as a researcher. She has more than enough scientific training to provide a compelling and easy to understand description of how homeopathy can be used to treat ‘incurable conditions’ like autism. Along with this compelling testimonial, Lansky provides an in-depth account on the history, philosophy and practice of homeopathy, as well as dozens of other testimonials on the power of homeopathy in curing various health problems… Impossible Cure covers all aspects of homeopathy from how it was developed to supporting research available today, including a guide to current homeopathic resources, and interweaves fact with the personal experiences of many people. The result is an introduction to homeopathy that stands out from the rest and is appropriate for anyone interested in homeopathy, whether they are at the beginner or professional level. There is also an entire chapter devoted to reviewing the scientific evidence supporting the validity of homeopathy. This chapter should help reassure skeptics. Also useful is Lansky’s use of sound evidence and personal insight to share her unique perspective on why homeopathy is a worthy alternative to traditional medicine. After two decades working as a computer scientist, Lansky was so moved by her son’s healing that she left her career to become an advocate and practitioner of homeopathic medicine. Her enthusiasm, belief and knowledge in homeopathy comes through in her writing and serves as an important guide on how and why homeopathy is a truly effective way to overcome chronic disease and restore mental, emotional and physical health. –Review from Dr. Mercola, Mercola Newsletter
Everybody’s Guide To Homeopathic Medicine
Written by a medical doctor and a well-known homeopath, who has authored several books on the subject, this revised and expanded edition is a good introduction to the theory and practice of homeopathy. Intended for the lay reader, the bulk of the book details self-treatment options for common ailments. The authors take great care advising patients when professional medical intervention is warranted. For most consumer collections. – Review from Library Journal Copyright 1999 Reed Business Information, Inc.
Beyond Flat Earth Medicine
This book by Dr. Timothy R. Dooley, is a gem of a book. Dooley’s writing style is informal, conversational, and easy to read. Amazingly, it is mostly jargon-free with the history and philosophy woven throughout in colorful threads rather than delivered in dry, dusty chunks. The explanations are succinct and beautifully digestible. Dooley answers every question I have ever been asked about homeopathy–and many more–while describing virtually every aspect of homeopathic treatment. The chapters are sprinkled with memorable stories, anecdotes, and case histories that are invariably vivid, interesting, humourous, or entertaining–sometimes all at once. This book reminds me of my favorite teacher, who entertained and instructed in equal measure. – Review by Miranda Castro, FS Hom, Mothering Magazine, Summer 1997.

Dana Ullman, one of the leading advocates of homeopathic medicine, has produced a comprehensive, lucid introduction to this branch of complementary medicine, covering the history and the philosophy of homeopathy as well as scientific evidence supporting its effectiveness for a variety of conditions. A detailed discussion of the effectiveness and the limits of homeopathy in the treatment of infectious disease, allergies, chronic diseases, psychological conditions and dentistry, as well as its applications in pregnancy and labor, women’s health, pediatrics and sports medicine follows.
The Homeopathic Revolution
What do Mark Twain, David Beckham, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Mother Teresa have in common? All have been enthusiastic fans of homeopathy, the alternative medical tradition that treats like with like. Homeopathy has an incredible history of support by many of the most respected people of the past 200 years, and modern science is finally catching up. In The Homeopathic Revolution, Dana Ullman blends vivid personal stories and quotes from these and other luminaries from a variety of eras and fields with a new definition of homeopathy as nano pharmacology one that will help people, including skeptics, start to understand its value. After explaining why conventional medicine is inadequately scientific, why homeopathy makes sense and works, and why it is so threatening to conventional medicine and drug companies, Ullman lets legends like Coretta Scott King, Cindy Crawford, Bill Clinton, Vincent Van Gogh, and other practitioners weigh in on the subject. By writing about homeopathys heroes and telling their stories, Ullman is able to reference and describe important scientific studies in user-friendly language that verifies the value of this widely used but still misunderstood tradition.
The Science of Homeopathy
This is an excellent exposition of the practice of homeopathy by one of the leading practitioners and teachers today. It is not an introductory book, but is a very useful followup to Flat Earth Medicine for example. It clarifies much of the conceptual framework necessary to understand this wonderful art.

Organon Of  The Medical Art
The is the book by the founder of homeopathic medicine, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, that gives exact and detailed directions in how to practice this discipline. This edition, edited by Wenda O’Reilly, is the most approachable, but still is suitable only for the serious student. It is for study and learning, not a light read, yet highly recommended. It is our guide to practice.
